For most, the use of bikinis are commonly associated with pastimes including… lying on the beach, lazing in and around the pool on holiday and of course, a means to top up those long-lusted for tan lines.
For me, bikinis are more than a seasonal staple, they are my go-to base layer when i head out on an adventure. Be it hiking or canoeing, a water sport or a dry sport, I always like to be prepared for the unexpected.
Wearing (the right fit) bikini or swimsuit gives me the comfort and support I need for the journey, alongside the flexibility to jump into a fresh water lake or waterfall should I find one.
I guess you could call me spontaneous...
Also, when i’m travelling (particularly in hot countries) I don’t like to work up a sweat in my underwear as it gets a little uncomfy and can become irritating after a while. Bikinis, for me, are a comfy alternative designed for working with moisture and alleviates any fear of discomfort!
When Surfdome approached me to get involved with their #workyourbikini summer campaign, i couldn’t have been more excited to get on board.
The whole campaign is about re-shaping peoples focus from how you look in a bikini to what you do in a bikini - an ethos I fully back.
We aren’t all VS model’s (well i’m certainly not), but that’s okay because we don’t need to be to wear a bikini.
Bikinis aren’t just for parading around a pool whilst sipping on a cocktail, they are the perfect companion for adventure, adrenalin and active living.
After looking through the extensive collection of bikinis / swimwear on the Surfdome website, I selected 4 items to take away with me to South Africa.
Bikini shopping is usually a bit of a chore for me as I usually fall in love with designs and styles that don’t support/compliment a bust.
Saying that, i was spoilt for choice on Surfdome, discovering so many beautiful new brands and each item i went for was of top quality and fitted perfectly!

Not one part of my South African adventure involved me sunbathing or lying by a pool, but I still wore each of my bikini's / swimwear pieces more than once and may I add, was complimented on every item!
